HRSDC SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Are you currently unemployed?

If you are currently unemployed & EI eligible and interested in your skills and education enhancement, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), Government of Canada, can enroll you in a Skills Development Program and provide you a negotiated level of financial assistance in order to gain skills training through our college and thereafter secure employment.

Who can apply for HRSDC Skills Development Program?

Eligible participants are those who, according to the Employment Insurance Act, are unemployed individuals:

  • For whom an unemployment benefit period has been established or has ended within the 36 months prior to the date of requesting assistance; or
  • For whom a benefit period that included a maternity or parental claim has been established within the 60 months prior to the date of requesting assistance, after which the individual remained out of the labour market in order to care for a newborn or newly adopted child and is now seeking to re-enter the labour force.

What is the process of HRSDC to approve the Training Funds?

Step 1: Approach your local HRSDC offices if you feel you are eligible.

Step 2: HRSDC offices will connect you to Case Manager at Employment Assessment Center.

Step 3: Your assigned Case Manager will evaluate your current marketability, will consider your request for skills and education enhancement and may place you in series of employment related workshops.

Step 4: Once your Case Manager determines that you do really need to enhance your skills and education, he/she will request you to conduct a research on schools or colleges and obtain their Letter of Acceptance (LOA) package.

Step 5: Visit one our campus locations to meet with our expert Career Counselor who will prepare suitable LOA package to your needs while you wait.

Step 6: Submit our issued LOA package to your Case Manager along with your documented school/college market re-search, your statement of purpose and choice of college for taking the training, employer re-search whether they will hire people who are trained on these skills & education, and an in-depth labour market survey on future employment outlook.

Step 7: Your Case Manager will forward your Skills Development Program application and developed Return To Work Action Plan (RTWAP) to your HRSDC Counselor with his/her statement.

Step 8: You will hear from your HRSDC Counselor of the outcome of your application for Skills Development Program within 6 to 8 weeks and if approved you will be required to sign an agreement with HRSDC.

Step 9: You are required to submit a full copy of your signed HRSDC agreement to register with us and to continue your education and other associated services at our college and report the same to HRSDC.
