“Second Career” is an Ontario government program that offers training for a new job. Second Career provides career planning and financial support specially designed to help laid-off Ontarians to participate in long-term training for a new job. Ontario Government Program “Second Career” helps recently laid-off Ontario workers get the skills training they need for high-demand jobs in their communities.
Second Career was launched by the Ontario Government in June 2008 to help laid-off Ontarians identify and train for new careers in growing sectors. Each participant can receive up to $28,000 to help pay for tuition, travel, books and other training costs.
Ontario is expanding access to Second Career. These new enhancements allow more laid-off workers to participate and take advantage of the training opportunities available, and build new skills for the careers of the future.
